Maynard 5/18/00-6/21/08
Rest in peace Maynard, I love you big man.
Maynard was
named after the lead singer of my favorite band, Tool. He was born in
May 2000. He loved his cats, playing ball and chewing on bones.
He knew over 75 verbal commands and over 30 hand signals. He was a
very fast learner and easy to teach. I did all of his training myself.
He was originally being trained for search and rescue, but I changed his focus to assistance training for the disabled. He was 1/2
Rottweiler, 1/4 German Shepherd and 1/4 Doberman. He was in love with cats and
helped raise two foster litters and three of our permanent furballs. At around 7 years old, he developed a seizure disorder and suffered Grand Mal seizures that could not be controlled. They had triggered a drastic and dangerous change in his personality that was starting to become uncontrollable. In order to prevent an accident, I opted to put an end to his suffering. He was very difficult to live with at times during his illness, but he was still my baby and the first dog I'd owned as an adult. His cats, Cash and I miss him terribly. |
